Minister Dahlan: Geothermal Projects Show Progress

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Dahlan Iskan, claimed that nine geothermal power plant projects are proceeding according to plan. He added that the nine power plants can serve as an alternative source of electricity in the future.
"I am happy that the geothermal projects, reaching 1,000 MW, will be finished in time," said Dahlan. He said that he had received reports on thr progress of the projects during a meeting with Karen Agustiawan, CEO of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and CEO of the State Electricity Company (PLN) Nur Pamudji.
Dahlan also noted that the construction of geothermal power plant Unit 5 in Garut has entered its engineering procurement and physical construction stage, while other projects were showing positive progress as well.
Pertamina Geothermal Energy is currently developing 655 MW power plants worth US$ 2,292 billion. Expected to finish in 2018, the power plant projects are aimed at achieving a target of eight to nine gigawatts (GW) of geothermal-generated electricity in 2025.
