TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the announcement of the official election results by the Indonesian General Election Commission on 22 July 2014, the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, delivers his congratulations to the newly elected president and vice president of Indonesia Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla.

“On behalf of the European Commission and myself, I would like to extend to you my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Republic of Indonesia as confirmed by the General Election Commission,” Barroso said in a written statement.

He also said that Indonesia and the European Union has enjoyed a close partnership based on shared values, including democracy, respect for tolerance, and human rights.

Barroso added that the UE is looking forward to further strengthen any form of cooperation with Indonesia later in the future. (*)
