TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Saleh Dharmawan, the head of utility division at the Jakarta Public Works Agency, has admitted that Jakarta had no integrated utility network map. The maps are available separately and based on company’s request, he added.
"The network maps were available when companies were making a 20-to-30-meter long utility network," Saleh said yesterday.
The fragmented maps were not well-documented digitally and had been collected in the form of hard copies. Therefore, Saleh suggested, problems related to utility network in Jakarta should be addressed by building ducting.
"Jakarta should have the political will to create ducting because this is an urgent matter," he uttered.
After the ducting is made, every company will be required to install its utility networks in the ducting. The government can also gain revenue by renting the ducting.
Some areas had applied the ducting system, including Pantai Indah Kapuk and Sudirman Central Business District, said Saleh.
