TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Amidst the raging news of wild boar meat in the market, the need of such meat in Ragunan Zoo South Jakarta reaches 70 percent of all carnivore's consumption. Recently, news have been circulating about smuggled wild boar meat circulated in the market, allegedly originated from the zoo's quota.
"Wild boar meat is for Bengal Tiger, Sumatran Tiger, African Lion, and other carnivores," Wahyudi Bambang, Head of Public Relation Department of Ragunan Zoo, told Tempo. The meat, he said, was delivered from Bengkulu, South Sumatera. "We used a third party for delivery process," said Bambang. "All of the process has [legal] permits."
Bambang added that in addition to wild boar meat, the zoo also used chicken meat and beef in a smaller proportion for to feed carnivore animals.
