TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jogja Hip Hop Foundation (JHF), a Javanese hip hop band originated from Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, had just released its new song, digitally, entitled Jogja Ora Didol (Yogyakarta - Not for Sale). The song contained lyrics that criticized regional policy, as well as gangsterism and religious-based violence. “We demand [Yogyakarta] as a region that respects human and [the government] to provide real policy in protecting its citizens,” said JHF member Marzuki Mohamad.
Jogja Ora Didol first appeared as an art of graffiti, criticizing Yogyakarta mayor Haryadi Suyuti. Arif Yuwono, one of the graffity artists, was detained for this action.
JHF then made this song to honor the movement. JHF consisted of three hip-hop bands namely 'Kill the DJ', 'Jahanam', and 'Rotra'. The pack often implied critics towards violence and intolerant acts in their song's lyrics. “The song is made to keep Yogyakarta special because JHF loves Jogja [Yogyakarta],” said Marzuki.
