TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arfiand Caesary Alirhami, 16, a high school student who went to State High School 3 in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, died Friday at MMC Hospital, South Jakarta, when he was about to have an stomach infection operation.
The eleventh grader was allegedly tortured when joining the 8-day extracurricular activity (ECA) in Tangkuban Perahu, Bandung, West Java, since Thursday, June 12.
Returning home, Arfiand was rushed to the hospital as he suffered from wounds and pain in the stomach.
Arfiand’s family, suspicious of the death of their first child immediately reported the alleged torture case to the South Jakarta police.
"His family has filed the report to us and we are now investigating the case," said Chief of South Jakarta Police Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat to Tempo, yesterday.
Wahyu said the family reported the case of an alleged torture and abuse that led to death. The report stated there were unusual causes of his death that the doctor told the family.
"We are still investigating the causes while waiting from the result of the autopsy," he said.
The police have questioned four witnesses to reveal the case. They are two students and two teachers who also took part in the ECA.
