TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Renowned jazz singer Jimmy Scott has died at the age of 88 on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Las Vegas, U.S. As reported by BBC, the singer whose high and haunting voice earned him many high-profile fans and a Grammy nomination died in his sleep. No clear cause of death has been released.
James Victor Scott was born in Cleveland, Ohoi on July 17, 1925. He was one of ten children in his families. Scott started his carrier in 1940s with Lionel Hampton Orchestra, Charlie Parker and others. He began his record career with his own name in 1950.
Scott had a high voice due to the rare genetic condition Kallman's Syndrome. The syndrome had caused him never reached puberty, suffered cretinism and his voice did not deepen.
