TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate Prabowo agreed with the statement that came from presidential candidate Joko Widodo about supporting the creative economy in the field of arts and performances. Jokowi said that Indonesia has high quality artworks that can bring the youth to take the next step up to the international level.
"My advisors said that I should always disagree with every Jokowi's statements, But if his suggestion is good, well I have to agree with him. This time, I agree with Mr. Jokowi," he said while hugging Jokowi on the presidential debate at the Gran Melia, Sunday, June 15 , 2014.
On the debate, Jokowi asked Prabowo about the views of the creative economy that should be developed, in order to reduce unemployment rate. Jokowi said that Indonesia has many artworks such as theatrical performance, music, animation, video, product design, and so on.
However, according to Jokowi, artists, in which most of them are youths, have not been given a large space to develop their arts. "In fact, if supported by the good management and marketing, it will bring our youths to the level of foreign countries," he said.
Prabowo responsed Jokowi's statement that the government must fully support artists, by investing heavily in education to encourage the creativity of young people. "If it is given a great opportunity, it will generate a huge foreign exchange. My son also managed to become an international level designer, so I fully support Mr. Jokowi," Prabowo said while delivering a friendly laugh.
The second presidential debate this time took the theme of "Economic Development and Social Welfare" and it did not include the vice-presidential candidates. An economist from Brawijaya University, Ahmad Erani Mustika, acted as the moderator. This year's presidential campaign held from June 4 to July 5. During the month, the Commission will hold five debates. the debate then be broadcasted by 11 television stations.
