TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As World Cup has officially kicked off, several items and technology began to come into the limelight due to their contribution. Brazil on the opening night has shown numerous cutting-edge and breakthrough inventions, all to make a better World Cup.
Among all techs, it was the exoskeleton robot that captivated the eyes of sci-fi fans in the opening night. Juliano Pinto, paralyzed from the waist down, was the first man to kick the ball in Brazil, all due to the exoskeleton provided by Walk Again project.
More interesting than the kicker was the ball itself, Brazuca. Adidas created the ball after a long process of evolution. Inspired by Japanese traditional flying weapon, shuriken, the six-panel ball is deemed to have better aerial trajectory than those of previous World Cups.
Whistlers in Brazil are also equipped with 9:15 Fairplay temporary spray to help them set defensive line on free-kick. Referees are also supportd with Goal Control sets to help monitor goals, in case of ghost goal such as that of Frank Lampard's in 2010.
All the devices and tech are expected to help create better event in Brazil. Moreover, they are deemed to be the new face of soccer in the new century, a reflection on how soccer has evolved in the past century.
