TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, said on Tuesday that BMW Park Stadium construction would have been completed by 2017. The stadium construction spends Rp1.2 trillion.
The stadium comes with facilities such as a main stadium and two training fields. There will also be green open space and a reservoir as recreation area and water sports' facilities. "MRT will also pass through this stadium," said Jokowi.
The stadium, with a capacity of 50,000 people, will also serve as training headquarters for Persija and Persitara football clubs. "This stadium will replace Lebak Bulus Stadium in South Jakarta," said the governor.
Jokowi said to have had obtained certificates of 12.5-hectare lands since March in regards to the land dispute that may disturb the project. He even allowed residents or institutions to contest to court if there are still land problems.
Urban planning observer, Nirwono Yoga, appreciated the Jakarta government’s move to build the stadium but reminded the government to form a stadium management body. "It can be like UPT (management unit)," said Nirwono yesterday.
The UPT will create regulations to manage and control the quality of the stadium. "People can also be gathered in a forum and are given tasks to keep or enhance the quality of the stadium area."
