TEMPO.CO, Brazil - The Brazilian police is plannin to hand out brochures statting "Do not react, scream or argue" prior to the 2014 World Cup that will be held shortly. As reported by Brazilian newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo, the police will distribute the brochures to provide tips for tourists on how to avoid being robbed during the 2014 World Cup.
"It will include tips on how to avoid being robbed, such as tucking valuable jewelry out of sight, and more importantly, how to confront a mugger," wrote Estado de Sao Paulo as quoted by Times on Tuesday, May 13, 2014.
Brazil is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. According to the United Nations, Brazil has one of the highest homicide rates in the world, with 25 out of every 100,000 people killed or murdered.
The same brochure was issued by the South African authorities ahead of the 2010 World Cup. As a result, crime rates dropped drastically during the event due to the heavy law enforcement presence.
