TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The peak load of electricity in Java, Madura, and Bali had broken a new record high on Thursday, April 24, where it reached 22,974 Megawatts at 18:00 local time.
"The increase in peak load is predicted to be caused by the weather factor. The weather has indeed been hot for the past couple of days, as result, it has triggered people to turn on the air-condition for a longer period of time," said Bambang Dwiyanto, state-owned electric company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara's (PLN) spokesman in a press release on Saturday, April 26.
The highest record is 407 Megawatts or 1.8 percent higher than its previous record. The company's record of the previous highest peak load that took place on October 17, 2013 at 19:00 local time, was 22,567 megawatts.
Bambang urged PLN customers to save electricity, especially the consumptive type. "Saving electricity can be carried out without lessening our comfort, for instance by switching off electronics that we don't use," he said.
