TEMPO.CO, Kiev - Eleven people are reportedly dead after Ukrainian airborne troops took over an airport in Kramatorsk on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. The airport was earlier seized by pro-Russian armed rebels. The attack was a signal that an anti-terror operation by the country had just begun.
As quoted by Daily Mail, local media reported the attack claimed four to eleven lives. But no confirmation has been made by the officials. Other reports mentioned that a fighter jet was shot down near Kramatorsk City, Donetsk.
Heavy gunfire was heard at the airport. Not long after, the Ukrainian troops claimed that they had taken over the airport from the pro-Russian separatists, occupying the city since a week ago.
Kramatorsk City is one of 10 eastern regions of Ukraine where conflict between separatists and Ukrainian troops has broken out.
Meanwhile, in Slaviansk, Reuters reported that none of the Ukrainian troops had been loyal to Kiev. An air force plane was reportedly flying above the city without any preparations to attack and reclaim the city.
