TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sony will record three matches in this year’s World Cup in 4K. The filming will take place at one match from the last 16 stages of the tournament, one quarter-final, and the final.
The footage will not be broadcast but will be incorporated into an official film developed in cooperation with FIFA. "We are excited by the prospect of working with Sony to incorporate 4K technology in our production plans. It will propel fans around the globe into a whole new viewing dimension and it marks the dawning of a new era in the broadcasting of sport,” said FIFA director of TV Niclas Ericson as quoted by Digital Spy on Thursday.
Sony will provide technical support by supplying CineAlta 4K PMW-F55 camera and other specialized devices.
"FIFA has a proud track record in embracing innovation at our flagship competition, to make sure that football fans around the world receive the very best in match coverage and experience," said Ericson.
The official film will be available through online distributors this year with trailers in 60p format prior ton the competition.
