Cities across Indonesia Participate In 2014 Earth Hour

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Big cities across Indonesia has turned off the lights simultaneously for one hour last night to take part in the "Earth Hour" campaign. As reported by ANTARA, the campaign is followed by continuous actions to save energy globally.

In Banda Aceh and Bekasi for example, people planted mangrove on the beach nearby their regions. In Bandung, the campaign was followed by implementing waste management and in Samarinda, Kalimantan, river revitalization was done. Makassar established green village program and satellite school in the scheme od Makassar Creative Movement.

"The success of the campaign is not measured by how much electricity we save in one hour during the Earth Hour, but the amplification of green lifestyle in cities where Earth Hour campaigns were held, and sustainable program is targeted to be part of change in each cities," said the Director of Communication and Advocating of WWF Indonesia, Nyoman Iswarayoga as quoted by ANTARA.

Earth Hour is a movement initiated by the World Wild Life Fund for Nature and has been globally followed by 154 countries that invite individuals to consider the climate change and its impacts caused by human activities.
