TEMPO.CO, Batam - Riau islands (Kepri) provincial legislature chairman Nur Syafriadi said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should investigate bauxite mining organizations in Kepri. The organizations have always been immune to lawsuits.
"Mining companies are very strong, but the region has been destroyed," he replied to Tempo’s question, yesterday, regarding three companies that have not been listed on the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, but already exporting.
All this time, mining activities require heavy equipment and ship transports, so, it is easy to discover which white collars that have been carrying out criminal activities. The shipment of bauxites has been conducted since 2006, however only those of 2011 and 2012 shipments have been recorded. Therefore, it is necessary to track down where the mining products in 2006-2010 had been sent off to.
Nur also complained about mining quarries that have not been reclaimed. As a result, it looks chaotic and dangerous for its residents. "They have to completely investigate on royalties that have not been paid," he urged.
Tempo’s source said bauxite exports to other countries are carried out carelessly. In order to avoid officer pursuits and public attention, bauxites are transported in the evenings and generally using illegal ports - called mice ports - to avoid taxation.
