TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency head Arie Budhiman said the budget to conserve buildings in Kota Tua (Old Town) came from the owners of the buildings. The government shared the expenses to improve public facilities in the area.
Arie said the concept of the area revitalization is public-private partnership. By the concept, stakeholders in the Old Town must participate to develop the area. The conservation program will be jointly arranged by a consortium of PT Pembangunan Kota Tua. If the building owners refuse the conservation program, the consortium will offer a cooperation scheme that includes profit sharing.
Arie said the conservation program is not only related to physical restoration of the buildings. "Most importantly is the function of the buildings."
The government is planning on making the Old Town the center of art, cultural, educational, economic and creative industrial activities.
The conservation program is set to be accomplished within five years. In addition to conservation, the Jakarta government will integrate the Old Town with other cultural heritages by heritage trail concept, said Arie.
