TEMPO.CO, Sao Paolo - Brazilian hackers are threatening to disrupt the 2014 World Cup by jamming websites to data theft, adding cyber warfare and overspending, as reported by NBC News.
Reuters website wrote in a country with rampant online crime, authorities have been conducting large-scale improvement on FIFA and government official websites prior to the World Cup.
"We are already making plans. I don’t think there is much they can do to stop us," said a hacker as quoted by Reuters.
Reuters contacted the hackers through network known as Anonymous, teliing one of the hackers that they could cause negative impacts on the World Cup. However, they said they would still do it.
"The attacks will be directed against official websites and those of companies sponsoring the Cup," a hacker known as the Commodore said.
William Beer, a cybersecurity expert, said his was not a first-time occurrence. He said resilience and response would be extremely important on this case. Meanwhile, a FIFA spokesperson declined to comment on this matter.
