TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Fashion Week 2014 (IFW 2014) opens today at the Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan. However, the four-day fashion event has sparked its festivity last week.
Dina Midiani, Director of IFW 2014, asked the residents of Jakarta to show up in their best local dress in an event called 'Sunday Dress Up'. The event, supported by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, took place during Car Free Day along the HI Boulevard up to the National Monument.
The participants called for local movement, a movement to love and be proud of local products, particularly fashion products. Dina explained that the movement is to help local products compete on global level. "IFW asks the residents of Jakarta to appreciate local products by buying and wearing them," she said.
Dina added that consistency on wearing local products can promote local products on a global stage, supporting Indonesia as a fashion center by 2020.
