TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) stated that they have hacked their way into Forbes.com on Friday, February 14, 2014. The group claimed that it had compromised user data, defaced webpages and posted a fake story to the site. The cyber wing of Bashar al-Assad's army posted a story titled "Hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army" under cybersecurity correspondent Andy Greenberg's byline.
As reported by Ubergizmo, SEA accessed the names, e-mail addresses and passwords of a few Forbes employees. Forbes confirmed the attack but did not say how many accounts were compromised.
"Forbes platform Forbes.com has been hacked. We will attend to this matter seriously,” said Forbes spokesperson through an e-mail.
USA Today reported that a number of the employee's Twitter accounts were also hacked, including those of social media manager Alex Knapp and reporter Samantha Sharf.
The group, whose members are anonymous, claimed in an email sent to and published by the International Business Times that they targeted Forbes because of the financial publication's clear hate for Syria.
