Chinese Govt' Issues Threat to Officials Involved in Prostitution

  • TEMPO.CO, Beijing - The Chinese government called for a harsh commitment against prostitution. The call was made following a report broadcasted in state television CCTV that highlights the country's sex industry while criticizing state officials. Guangdong police chief has fired a number of officials involved in the industry, after arresting 920 suspects in Dongguan City.

    China Daily reported that several other provinces also held major operation against prostitution. Last Thursday, 100 suspects were arrested in Nantong, east of Jiangsu Province. The police were conducting a massive operation, raiding 79 prostitution and gambling houses.

    China News Agency Xinhua, wrote that the city of Dongguan has been the country's most renowed redlight district for years.
