TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The use of marijuana is now legal in Colorado and Washington authority, United States. A shop that sells marijuana in Colorado was even crowded by customers when it was firstly opened earlier this month. However, the global internet network banned the marijuana advertisement on their website.
Digital Trends reported that Facebook and Google asserted they will not allow pot sellers to put on marijuana ads on their websites. "The risk of attempting to allow ads promoting the drug in certain states or countries where it is legal is too high (no pun intended) for us to consider at this time," Facebook spokesman Tim Rathschmidt told GigaOm by email.
Digital Trends also wrote the internet companies are applying double standard on such advertisements. Those promoting alcohol, for example, are largely found in Google although such ads breach Google’s advertising policy. The same goes for coffee advertisements on Facebook.
