TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Sudan troops are set to attack the rebel-held town of Bor, President Salva Kiir said on Monday. President Salva Kiir added that the attack was delayed until United States had evacuated its citizens out.
Battle has been ravaging throughout South Sudan for a week, after Kiir accused his former deputy Riek Machar of attempting a coup. Machar has denied the allegation and accused Kiir of carrying out a vicious purge of his rivals.
Foreign government representatives in the nation, including those of the US, Britain, Uganda and Kenya, have been organizing evacuation. US President Barack Obama on Monday even threatened that he will take further action in South Sudan if its nationals come under attack. "As I monitor the situation in South Sudan, I may take further action to support the security of US citizens, personnel and property, including our embassy, in South Sudan," Obama wrote in a letter to Congress.
