TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Series of suicide bombs across Iraq killed at least 17 people on Monday, December 16, 2013. One of them was in the town of Beiji, 180 kilometers north of Baghdad.

"Four men wearing explosive belts took over a police station after detonating a car bomb outside," police sources told Reuters.

Al-Arabiya News correspondent reported that security guards imposed a curfew in Beiji following bomb explosions and escaping prisoners.

In Baghdad, series of bombs exploded in and around the city, killing at least nine people. Two cars exploded in al-Bayaa and al-Nahda area, killing several people. Explosions also crippled areas of al-Salhiya, al-Karada, al-Sadriya, al-Husainiyah, al-Aaalam field, and Mohammad al-Qassem toll road.

Three car bombs and one magnet bomb injured at least 25 people as well. The explosions occurred a day after several gunmen killed a female TV presenter in northern Iraq on Sunday, December 15, 2013 and six other journalists since October 2013.
