TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Jakarta’s regional secretary implementer and development assistant, Wiriyatmoko, says the DKI Jakarta Administration has only set a target for an additional six percent of green open spaces in the region’s urban development plan. As ten percent of the capital already consists of green open spaces, the city targets a total of 16 percent green open spaces by 2030, he said.
However, this is only the target of the capital’s administration. Aside from that, the private sector has also set a target of 14 percent of green open spaces.
Wiriyatmoko said that land allocated for skyscrapers is not permitted to be used entirely for buildings.
"Only a maximum of 40 percent can be used (for the actual building), the remaining 60 percent will be for a garden," he said.
Urban planning analyst from Trisakti University, Yayat Supriyatna, said it is difficult to establish more green open spaces in Jakarta as most of its land has been used up. Aside from that, the cost of land has sky rocketed these past few years.
