TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, together with other related agencies and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has released the Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) for 2012. The Index revealed that Jakarta is the most democratic city in the country.
"Jakarta achieves the highest [position] in the IDI with 77.72 points," Head of Statistics Indonesia Suryamin, said at Hotel Borobodur, Jakarta, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.
Sitting on the top five position after Jakarta are North Sulawesi (76.50 points), South Sumatera (73.17 points), Yogyakarta (71.96 points), and East Nusa Tenggara (72.67 points). While the lowest positions are achieved by Aceh (54.02), East Java (54.99), West Java (57.05), Southeast Sulawesi (57.26), and West Nusa Tenggara (57.97).
The IDI evaluates individual freedom, political rights, and democratic institutions using 28 variables and 11 indicators. Overal results of IDI in 2012 had decreased by 2.85 points from the previous year of 62.63.
