TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Accor, an international hotel group, stated that Indonesia is the second largest hotel market in Asia, after China. Accor Asia Pacific Chairman and COO, Michael Issenberg, said that Indonesia is visited by a lot of tourists and he was optimistic that Indonesia would continue to be one of the largest markets in Asia.
“Indonesia continues to give us the chance to thrive. It’s proven that after 20 years of operation, the number of hotels and rooms of Accor keeps growing,” he said at the Pullman Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 11, 2013.
To strengthen its market in Indonesia, Accor will expand its network in various segments. “Our network development is also focused on strengthening the upscale and luxury hotel market,” he said.
For the upscale segment, Accor relies on Pullman. To this date, Accor owns three Pullman hotels in Jakarta and Bali. Within the next three years, Accor plans to build more in Bandung, Surabaya and Ciawi. Besides Pullman, Accor also relies on Grand Mercure Maha Cipta in Jakarta.
The hotel group is focused on developing the second-tier, midscale and economy segments as well. Senior Vice President of Accor Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, Gerard Guillouet said that his company will develop hotels in second-tier cities, such as Palu, Kendari, Samarinda, Malang and Padang in 2014 and 2015.
“Our development strategy focuses on developing hotels in the main cities without forgetting small destinations,” he said.
Accor currently manages nine hotel brands: Sofitel, Pullman, Mgallery, Grand Mercure Maha Cipta, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis Styles, Ibis and Ibis Budget. Sixty two of the hotels are in the midscale and economy segment, including 19 Novotel hotels, 15 Mercure hotels and 28 Ibis and Ibis budget hotels.
