TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prosecutors of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) asked the Jakarta Corruption Court to sentence the former president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq, to 18 years in prison and a Rp1.5 billion fine—a cumulative sentence for corruption and money laundering charges against Luthfi.
“We’re asking the judges to sentence Luthfi to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million, or 6 months, for corruption; and 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion, or 1 year and 4 months, for money laundering,” said prosecutor Rini Triningsih during the trial on Wednesday, November 27.
In the trial, prosecutors said Luthfi was proven legitimately and convincingly guilty of corruption involving Ahmad Fathanah. Prosecutors said that while handling the beef imports quota, Luthfi persuaded the Minister of Agriculture, Suswono (PKS), to increase the quota for PT Indoguna Utama. For this, Luthfi was promised a commission of Rp40 billion.
Prosecutors said that Luthfi was proven guilty of money laundering by failing to disclose a number of bank accounts under his name in the report of state officials’ wealth.
