TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the past three days, Facebook has been providing a donation tab on top of each user's timeline. The donation tab is inviting the users to donate Rp100,000 for typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines through the International Red Cross and Red Crescent.
"All charities will go to the global network of Red Cross Red Crescent," a statement was seen on the Facebook tab yesterday. The donation can be made either by credit card or Visa or MasterCard debit card.
On November 13, the Red Cross and Red Crescent International have agreed on collecting donation through Facebook that provides free space on its site.
"This is the largest fundraising that has ever been done by the Red Cross and Red Crescent International through the social network sites," said Red Cross International spokeswoman Laura Howe as reported by Washington Post.
Up until Friday, the total donation has reached US$33 million. CNN.com quoted: "In addition to Facebook, the Red Cross International also receives donation from Apple application, iTunes."
"What the Haiyan Typhoon victims needed is clean water, as the source of clean water is hard to find," said Michael Delaney.
