TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A joint forces of workers associations incorporated in the Jakarta Labor Forum visited the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) City Council on Monday to reject the provincial minimum wage.

"We see that Jokowi is pro low wages," said Dedi Hartono representing the forum, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, a cadre of the PDI-P, had set the 2014 minimum wage at Rp2.4 million, much lower than what the workers demand at Rp3.7 million.

Dedi thinks that the wage is inappropriate and said that the city administration can still revise the decision as it once happened in the past. "At the time of Pak Sutiyoso and Pak Fauzi Bowo, the minimum wage was revised," he argued.

Dedi lamented on the fact that the Workers' Council were excluded from the meeting to decide the minimum wage. "At that time there were technical constraints, so the presidium council was unable to join the meeting," said Dedi.

Member of the PDIP City Council Prasetyo Edi Marsudi said the workers' complaint will be delivered to the governor, and will be discussed by the Economic Affairs Committee.

"We will also review proposals from the labor force; whether or not it adheres to regulations," said Prasdetyo.
