TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia urged the international community to ensure that the cyberspace is no longer used as an arena for international competition.
"Indonesia declares the importance of building trust as a new paradigm and approach for countries in viewing the cyberspace," said Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa during his speech at the Seoul Conference on Cyberspace, South Korea, Thursday, October 17.
In his speech, Minister Marty stated that the cyberspace provides the opportunities to achieve global prosperity and peace.
Indonesia asserted that it is important for countries to think about global principals and norms to regulate the cyberspace in order to facilitate economic growth, eradicate poverty and promote democracy and tolerance. Therefore, Marty emphasized on the importance of the United Nations' role in establishing a form of global cyberspace management.
"An equal access to cyberspace for all citizens of the world can increase productivity, and encourage creativity, whether it's for individual or communal purposes," Marty said as quoted from a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was received by Tempo.
