TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission for Missing Person and Victims of Violence (Kontras) is questioning the National Police Criminal Investigation Chief Comr. Gen. Sutarman's feasibility as the sole National Police Chief candidate to replace Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo. Kontras mentioned that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono did not include the reason for Sutarman's candidacy.
Kontras Coordinator Haris Azhar, claimed that the President's act of not including a reason for Sutarman's candidacy contradicts the accountability mechanism. As a result many people are not aware of Sutarman's track record.
He further added that there are a few things that must be clarified in regards to Sutarman, such as, the assault on Corruption Eradication Commission during the arrest of Comr. Novel Baswedan.
"Sutarman should know and explain what was the problem at that time," Haris said in his office on Sunday, October 13.
Haris also mentioned that during his time as the Regional Police Chief, Sutarman failed to investigate the assault on anti-corruption activist Tama S. Langkun in 2010.
The Head of Kontras' Research Bureau Chrisbiantoro explained that Sutarman has failed to fulfill the citizens' rights for security when he was serving as a Regional Police Chief.
