TEMPO.CO, Malang - The access to Mount Semeru through the Malang-Lumajang route is closed beginning September 9-December 2013 due to road renovation. The road will be fortified with concrete and covered with asphalt.
“The road is severely damaged, so we will fix it. The entire budget is stemming from the Forestry Ministry. We are so sorry that the access to Mount Bromo, and particularly to Mount Semeru through Malang, is temporarily closed,” said the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park chief Ayu Dewi Utari on October 7, 2013.
Ayu said the closed access included the entrance to Coban Trisula tourism spot in Ngadas hamlet, Poncokusumo sub-district to Ranupani hamlet in the Senduro sub-district, Lumajang regency, measuring six kilometers in length and six meters in width. But the total length of the access shut would be 3.2 kilometers beginning from the Jemplang Post in Ngadas to Ranupani, she added.
“Vehicles can still pas the road this week. But next week the road will be completely shut. If tourists want to go to Bromo or Semeru through the Jemplang Post, they have to go on foot. That is the only access from Malang to Bromo and Semeru,” Ayu said.
