TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In response to the death of Abdulaye Sekou Camara, striker of the Pelita Bandung Raya football club, Haryo Yuniarto, the Daily Head Indonesian Professional Sport Association (BOPI), mentioned in a statement that the death of an athlete due to certain illness can be prevented by conducting routine medical check up.
"However, BOPI requires a huge amount of budget to facilitate medical check up for football clubs," said Haryo. He admitted that financial issues have restricted BOPI from doing its best to prevent such incidents from happening.
Camara passed away in the middle of the club's regular training session in Siliwangi Stadium, Bandung. He presumed to have died from a cardiac arrest during the training.
Haryo explained that the incident was purely accidental because training is a routine session that every club has. He stated that due to that reason, BOPI's authority to investigate the incident is strictly limited.
"Because the incident was accidental...BOPI cannot investigate further," Haryo stated.
