TEMPO.CO, Cairo - Supporters and opponents of Egypt's deposed president Mohamed Morsi are gearing up for mass protests that will be held on Friday, July 26. General Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Egyptian army chief, has called Egyptians to show their support to the government.
Earlier this week, the General urged the people to strengthen a military 'mandate' to stop 'violence and terrorism'. On the other hand, Morsi supporters are likely to increase as the Moslem Brotherhood has called on its supporters to help fill the streets.
Violent clashes that have occured within this month have already costed the lives of 200 people, mostly being supporters of Morsi. The army has threatened to 'turn its guns' on those who use violence, while the Brotherhood has issued warnings of a civil war.
"We will not initiate any move, but will definitely react harshly against any calls for violence or black terrorism from Brotherhood leaders or their supporters," said an anonymous Egyptian military official as cited by Reuters.
