TEMPO.CO, Perth - A group of Australian researchers has successfully developed a pair of anti-shark diving suits. The suits were designed to conceal divers’ bodies when they meet the predators. The team of University of Western Australia scientists worked together with designers from the Shark Attack Mitigation Systems (SAMS) to create the diving suits.
As reported by Dailymail yesterday, July 18, the blue pattern on the Elude diving suit could not be detected by sharks since the predator is color-blind. Meanwhile, the stripes on the Diverter suit mimic the colors of poisonous fish to drive the sharks off. The creators stated the diving suit can save the user’s life.
This combination of contrasting colors and differing types and sizes of the shapes 'ensures optimal effect at various depths and distances,' explained one of the SAMS researcher. The company believes that the chance of the users being attacked by sharks is nearly non-existent since the sharks could not detect people who are guarded by the special suit. The company also created surfing boards with matching patterns to protect surfers.
The idea to create the protective diving suits came after a number of shark attacks in West Australian coasts, which gave the country a bad reputation. The suits have been researched and tested for two years. Consumers can buy the products for US$450 at Wetsuits Radiator.
