TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Solite Studio Team from Trunojoyo University, Madura, East Java, won the runner-up title at Imagine Cup 2013 Worldwide Finals in St Petersburg, Russia, held on July 8 to July 12. The 'Save the Hamster' application made the team eligible for US$10,000 cash prize.
The team of Asadullohil Ghalib Kubat (Team Leader), Miftah Alfian Syah (Programmer), Tony Wijaya (Graphic Designer) and Mukhammad Bagus Muslim (Game Designer) accepted the trophy at the Imagine Cup 2013 Worldwide Finals at Alexandrinsky Theater, witnessed by more than 800 students, jury, partners, Russian officials and journalists from all over the world.
The team beat 87 students from 71 countries at the final after going through both online and local competitions. Microsoft gave out cash and other rewards equal to US$1 million during the Imagine Cup competition.
Andreas Diantoro, Microsoft Indonesia President Director proudly applauded the winning of the Team. "We are very proud of Team Solite Studio. It proves that Indonesian application developers have been recognized, even from a small island like Madura," said Andreas in his press release, Friday, July 12.
According to him, this is the first time for Indonesia to win world’s Imagine Cup and the winning should become an example for the Indonesian young application developers.
"Microsoft Indonesia has always been committed to empowering young developers through Imagine Cup competition, or in the form of support to information technology developments in the country," he added.
Asadullohil Ghalib Kubat admitted that he is proud of his team's achievement. "It surprises us but we were optimistic to gain something in this world-scale event, because we have prepared ourselves through mentoring provided by Microsoft Indonesia," he explained.
"We spent all of our energy and focus to compete in Imagine Cup 2013. All of our hard work paid off when we brought the Indonesian red-and-white flag to the world-scale Imagine Cup stage," Ghalib added.
