TEMPO.CO, Cairo - Egypt's prosecutor's office has issued an arrest warrant of Mohamed Badie, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. Badie was charged of inciting violence outside the Republican Guard headquarters which killed 51 people on Monday.
MENA news agency reported that besides Badie, Muslim Brotherhood Deputy Head Mahmoud Ezzat, party leaders Essam El-Erian and Mohamed el-Beltagy were also included in the arrest warrant. Al Jazeera reported nine others are also ordered to be detained.
One day prior, Egypt's prosecutor general began to investigate 650 people suspected of involvement in Monday's violence. The office did not specify on who were under investigation.
The Muslim Brotherhood called for an "uprising" to restore Morsi after the incident on Monday. Thousands of its members have been maintaining a vigil near a mosque in northeast Cairo demanding the reinstatement of President Mohamed Morsi. They also refused to join the transitional government. Prime Minister of the transitional government, Hazel El-Beblawi said he would start forming the new government after meeting liberal leaders.
Beblawi told the Reuters news agency, that it would be difficult to win the unanimous support of Egyptians for his new government. "Of course we respect the public opinion and we try to comply with the expectation of the people, but there is always a time of choice, there is more than one alternative, you cannot satisfy all of the people," he said.
