TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bahaaeldeen Dessouki, has guaranteed the safety of all 6,300 Indonesian citizens currently in the middle of the nation’s turmoil. Dessouki released this statement in response to the Indonesian Legislative Council’s (DPD) request to ensure the safety and security of Indonesian citizens in Cairo.
Eqypt is currently in uproar following protests calling for President Mohammad Morsi to step down and the government’s transition under military supervision.
DPD chairman Irman Gusman also advised Indonesians in Egypt to avoid dangerous locations. He added that they should not involve themselves in Egypt’s affairs either and just stay out of the way. He hopes this political turbulence will soon end and the transition process will run smoothly and safely.
Ambassador Dessouki says he understands the Indonesian government’s concern about their citizens in Egypt. He ensured the nation that all Indonesian citizens in Egypt would be secure.
