TEMPO.CO, Arctic Ocean - A polar bear was photographed during an adventure cruise to the remote archipelago. The curious cub appeared to be pushing the ship out of his territory when it came too close to the Norwegian islands of Svalbard.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday that the -30C temperature did not stave off tourists from visiting the Arctic to catch a glimpse of a few of the 3,000 of endangered polar bears living on the islands that lie about halfway between Norway and the North Pole.
However this may have been one of the things that had led to the decline of the sea ice. The long summers have prevented the sea ice from panning to its usual berth, reducing the size of polar bears' hunting round. Melting sea ice is an impending threat to the polar bear, which could lose 10 to 20 kilograms of its body weight every week it fails to find food.
Perhaps the cub was indeed trying to push the ship away, telling the tourists to stay off its home.
