Indonesian Won Gold Medal on World Graphic Design Festival

TEMPO.CO, Wonosobo - Desnya Merdeka Pertamita, alumnus of State High School (SMAN) 1 Wonosobo won a gold medal at the International Art High School Festival 2013 in Tokyo, Japan. At the festival held on June 27 to July 1, her graphic design entitled 'Be Healthy with Fresh Meat' was awarded On Top of the World title or the best in the world.
Desnya competed 10,182 other students from all over the world and yet, the theme that she raised captured the jury's attention. The jury said her design is original and deep in sense. There is a global message for people to start living a healthy way of life.
"Nowadays people prefer to eat canned food, such as canned beef, canned fish, and canned fruit without considering the health risk," Desnya said during an interview concerning the inspiration of her design on Friday, July 5. "Human is becoming more instant."
Desnya said she had to conduct a research to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) with her counselor, Tunjung Dwi Anggoro, to collect data about canned beef consumption. "The data is important, to know the fact on the field," she said. "The data is supporting the graphic design art that it can generate original and quality work."
Before becoming a world champion, Desnya was the best contestant at high school graphic design competition in Lombok on June last year. She brought up a theme about anti free-sex for teenagers. The School Principal of SMAN 1 Wonosobo, Danang Kusumanto said he is proud of his student achievement. "This achievement is not only for Desnya, but also for the school, society, and Indonesia," he said.
The design is being exhibited at National Art Museum Tokyo from June 27 to July 7.
