TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The Bandung Institute of Technology opened the Bandung Business and Management Institute of Technology (SBM-ITB) offering a bachelor of entrepreneurship degree program.
"The SBM-ITB is the first university to offer a bachelor of entrepreneurship program," said the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership (CIEL) director Donald Lantu, at the International Conference on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Small Business (IICIES) 2013 at Panghegar Hotel in Bandung on Thursday, June 27.
He said the program was established to increase the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia. Developed countries need at least 2 percent of entrepreneurs out of the whole population. Currently, Indonesia only has 1.5 percent of entrepreneurs whereas Malaysia has 3 percent and Singapore has 6 percent.
The program will not only offer concepts in the classroom, but also teach students how to implement these concepts in the real world.
Head of the entrepreneurship program at ITB, Sudarso Kaderi Wiryono, said the program will create new employment opportunities in Indonesia.
