TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Legendary Ukranian pole vault athlete Sergey Bubka, visited Indonesia last Tuesday, June 25, to strengthen the relationship between Ukraine and Indonesia in developing sport achievements.
Bubka the chairman of the Ukranian Olympics Committee, and the chairman of the Indonesian Olympics Committee, Rita Subowo, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the partnership.
"It is important for us (Ukraine and Indonesia) to help each other," said Bubka. "Ukraine can help Indonesia with athletic sports while Indonesia can help us develop our badminton skills," he said.
Sergey Bubka is the first pole vault athlete in the world to clear 6 meters during a competition in Paris, France, on July 13, 1985. Bubka also broke the world record in men’s pole vaulting 35 times. He is currently the vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
