TEMPO.CO, England - Consuming fish could help enhance brain activities, prevent heart disease and increase the immune system, a study suggests. Furthermore, babies who are regularly fed with fish are much less likely to develop allergies when they get older.
Scientists who monitored babies' diets found many of those consuming plenty of fish early in life were much more likely to still be free of allergies 12 years later. Their chances of developing eczema also dropped by 22 per cent, and fever by 26 per cent.
The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest feeding fish to infants two or three times a month may be enough to reduce their risks, as proven from the Immunoglobulin E (IgE) test to children to find whether infants have allergy symptoms.
Among these children who have Eczema, the risk of allergies dropped significantly compared to others who rarely or never consume fish at all. However, the study did not examine exactly which type of fish had the most potent affect.
