TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo said that ongoing export-import transactions will remain at a deficit this year despite the fuel price hikes plan. "Ongoing transaction will remain at a deficit of below three percent," said Agus at the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Monday, June 3.
However, Agus believes that Bank Indonesia needs to coordinate with the central government and regional administrations to deal with the balance of payments. "We need to conduct a session to discuss the balance of payments, not just the trade balance, but also about other services, transfers, and capital and financial inflow," said the governor.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on Monday, June 3, has released that the trade balance was at a US$1.62-billion deficit in April 2013 despite a surplus of US$304.9 million in March.
