TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tanjung Priok port was left out of business from Monday due to a labor strike held by logistic and forwarder workers. "The strike may cause Rp 2 trillion [US$203,85 million] loss per day," said Achmad Ridwan, Secretary General of Indonesia National Importers Association.
785 importers stopped operating and protested PT Pelindo II, a port operator company, for business monopoly. Similar strike also occured in Tanjung Emas Harbor, Semarang.
Carmelita Hartoto, the Head of Indonesia Commerce Shipping Association, said that harbor importers cannot compete with state owned enterprise.
