TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - a car transporter caught on fire in the eastern Thailand city of Nakohn Ratchsima and took nearby people quite a surprise. Apparently, the transporter was filled with expensive supercars.
The incident was a rare sight in Thailand, and so were supercars. 200 percent import tax makes them extremely expensive in the country.
Following the fire, the locals were excited to see the supercars, especially because they were on fire. The cars included a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Lamborghini Murcielago, Bentley Continental Flying Spur, and BMW X6. Only two cars, Bentley and Mercedes Benz, were spared from the fire. Those four cars alone are worth 100 million Baht, roughly around US$3.3 million.
The driver told the police that he did not even noticed that the cars were on fire until he saw a motorist repeatedly signalling him. He also said that he parked the truck and tried to put out the blaze, but it was too strong. The fire department finally put out the flames and the driver was taken to the nearest police station for further questioning.
