TEMPO.CO, Wales - Stacey Lewis (24) gave birth to a baby girl named Imogen Elliot who was born with a pair of pearly whites in her lower gum. Midwives at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, England were baffled as they noticed the pair of natal teeth, which grew early. Natal teeth - which are happening in just one in every 2,000 babies - are teeth that are present when the baby is born and are usually called baby teeth which have come through early.
The teeth are sometimes loose because the root is not completely developed. However, Imogen’s teeth were healthy with strong roots. Mother Stacey Lewis told Daily mail, on Wednesday, 29 May."As soon as Imogen was born, the midwives put her on my chest and I spotted them straight away. I wasn't expecting my baby to be born with teeth. Midwives said they had never seen anything like it before," she said.
The hospital would not let the new family leave the hospital until they had spoken to a specialist pediatrician. They were initially worried about the teeth of the baby, but she was checked out by a specialist who said she was fine.
"Many midwives in this hospital were curious about this rare case. They kept coming to see the cute Imogen," Lewis said, adding that she will be seeing the dentist for her first dental appointment soon, just to make sure the teeth are growing properly.
