TEMPO.CO, Seoul – Cosmetic surgery has become a major trend in Asia, with South Korea being its biggest market according to International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
In South Korea, cosmetic surgery has become somewhat common among its people, given the fact that most Korean artists had such procedure to physically improve their appearance.
The trend, however, has become a concern for doctors, especially because jaw surgery, the most popular cosmetic surgery in South Korea, is extremely dangerous.
"Jaw surgery could alter your look dramatically. The fact is, this surgery is a dangerous procedure," said Choi Jin-Young, a dental expert in Seoul National University.
People having jaw surgery need months of recovery and the procedure can result in various complications like permanent facial numb or paralysis.
