TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has cooperated the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in an effort to improve Indonesia's fisheries. Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said that one of the aspects included in the cooperation is the eradication of illegal fishing.

Cicip stated that the cooperation will include access of information about countries that received the catch from illegal fishing. Cicip explained that legal fish import must be accompanied by a certificate of origin.

"I request the FAO to work together in conducting oversight and in providing access to information concerning illegal fisher or the result of illegal fishing—please notify the concerning country," said Cicip after signing a MoU between the ministry and the FAO in Jakarta on Monday, May 27.
